BOARD OF EDUCATION
The Board of Education is the governing body of the EL school district and is governed by the Connecticut General Statutes (Title 10) and the Connecticut State Board of Education. Its duties include formulating and interpreting policies, making decisions on educational and budget matters, and making a continuous appraisal of the educational and administrative process. Specific duties include:
• Selecting and evaluating the superintendent, and supporting the superintendent in the discharge of duties
• Participating with the superintendent in the identification of the educational needs of the Town, and enacting policies and establishing curriculum, and participating, as requested, in their implementation and interpretation, and establishing requirements for graduation
• Authorizing budgeted funds for the purposes of operating the school system and adopting an annual school budget based on the assessment of the perceived educational needs of the Town
• Anticipating the facilities requirements of the system, utilizing professional inputs and working with other Town committees as required
• Establishing extracurricular and athletic programs to augment the educational program and aid in the social and physical development of students .
The BoE consists of ten members, each elected to a four year term.
The BoE meets on the first and third Mondays of the month, 7:00 p.m., in the Room B101 at EL High School. There are also sub-committee meetings.
